Starting therapy brings up a lot of practical questions. Here are answers about how online sessions work, insurance, privacy and what to expect. If your question isn’t here, call us at (840) 262-5824 or contact us
Call us at (840) 262-5824 or send a message through our contact page. We’ll talk briefly about what you’re looking for, check your insurance or private-pay options, and find a session time that works for you. Appointments are scheduled with our team rather than booked online.
Yes. You’re welcome to call (840) 262-5824 to ask questions about our services and whether we’re a good fit before you schedule. This short call isn’t a therapy session, but it helps you decide on your next step.
The first session is a chance to get to know each other. Your therapist will ask about what brings you to therapy, your history and what you hope to change. You’ll talk about goals together and can ask any questions you have. Before the session you’ll complete intake forms through a secure client portal.
Sessions last about 50 minutes. Most people start with weekly sessions, then meet less often as things improve. You and your therapist will decide together what pace works best for you.
No. You can contact us directly without a doctor’s referral, and you don’t need a diagnosis to begin. Some insurance plans do ask for a referral or pre-authorization, so it’s worth checking with your plan first.
For many people, yes. Research has found video therapy to be effective for common concerns such as anxiety, depression and trauma. Many clients also find it easier to open up from a space where they feel comfortable. Your therapist will let you know if another kind of care would serve you better.
No. All sessions at Peaceful Mind Counseling Center are online, by secure video. This means you can see a licensed therapist from anywhere in California without a commute or a waiting room.
Yes. Our therapists are licensed in California, so you need to be physically located in California at the time of each session. You can join from home, work or anywhere else in the state where you have privacy.
You need a phone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone, a stable internet connection and a private, quiet space. Headphones can help with privacy. You’ll get a secure link to join your session, with no special software to set up.
We accept Aetna, Blue Shield of California, UnitedHealthcare/Optum and Magellan. Coverage depends on your individual plan, so we recommend checking your mental health benefits before your first session. Call us at (840) 262-5824 and we can help you check.
Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card. Ask about your outpatient mental health benefits, whether video (telehealth) sessions are covered, and what your deductible and copay are. You can also call us and we’ll help you through it.
Many plans cover online therapy sessions the same way they cover in-person visits, but benefits vary from plan to plan. Checking your coverage before your first session helps you avoid surprises.
We offer online therapy for anxiety, trauma and PTSD and depression. We also offer individual therapy, marriage and couples therapy, family therapy and teen therapy. If you’re not sure which fits, call us and we’ll talk it through.
Yes. We offer online therapy for teens ages 13–17 across California. A parent or guardian is usually involved in getting started. We’ll explain how privacy works for teens so everyone knows what to expect.

Your therapist will go over these with you in your first session.
