This privacy policy explains what information Peaceful Mind Counseling Center collects when you visit getpeacefulmind.com, how we use it and how we protect it. We provide online therapy across California, and we take your privacy seriously.
This privacy policy covers our website only: the pages you browse, the contact form and messages you send us through the site. It does not cover the clinical records created once you become a client. Those records are protected under federal and California health privacy laws and are described in our Notice of Privacy Practices, which you receive when you begin therapy.
Information you give us. When you fill out our contact form, email us or call us, we collect the details you choose to share, such as your name, email address, phone number and your message.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our site may collect basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you view and how you arrived at our site. This information does not tell us who you are.
Please don’t send health information through the website. Our contact form and email are not intended for sharing detailed health or clinical information. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy by phone or in your first session. If you are in crisis, please don’t wait for a reply: call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline or call 911.
We use the information we collect to:
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information.
Our website uses small files called cookies. Some are needed for the site to work properly. We may also use Google Analytics to understand, in general terms, how visitors use our website, such as which pages are viewed most. Google Analytics collects information like pages visited and approximate location, but we do not send the contents of our contact form or any health information to Google Analytics.
You can learn how Google uses this data in Google’s Privacy Policy, and you can opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Our website does not currently respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals.
We share information only when needed to run our practice and website, for example with:
Our website uses a secure (HTTPS) connection, and access to the information you send us is limited to the people who need it to respond to you. No website or email system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, which is another reason we ask you not to send detailed health information through the site.
If you become a client, the information you share in therapy is protected by HIPAA and the California Confidentiality of Medical Information Act. Our Notice of Privacy Practices explains how that information is used, when it may be shared, and your rights to access and correct your records. You can ask us for a copy at any time.
Confidentiality and its limits. What you share in therapy stays confidential. There are a few exceptions required by law, such as when there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or someone else, when we suspect abuse of a child, elder or dependent adult, or when a court orders records to be released. Your therapist will explain these limits in your first session.
How long we keep records. We keep client records for at least seven years after therapy ends, as required for California licensed therapists. For clients who are minors, records are kept for at least seven years after the client turns 18. Records are then securely destroyed.
You may ask us to see, correct or delete the personal information you have shared with us through our website. To make a request, email contact@getpeacefulmind.com or call (840) 262-5824. We may need to keep some information when the law requires it.
Our website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them online. Therapy for teens is arranged with a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Our website links to other sites, such as Instagram, the 988 Lifeline and the California license lookup. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites, so please review their policies when you visit them.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the effective date at the top.
If you have questions about this privacy policy or how we handle your information, please contact us, email contact@getpeacefulmind.com or call (840) 262-5824. You can also find answers about online therapy on our FAQ page.
